A creator can make an excellent video, generate thousands of views and produce no measurable sales. That does not automatically mean the creator failed. A sales campaign is a system: creator, offer, landing page, tracking, checkout and follow-up all affect the commercial result.

Start with product economics

Before selecting creators, understand margin, acceptable acquisition cost, average order value and whether customers buy once or repeatedly. Without that, “good ROI” has no operational definition.

Creator, offer and landing page must work together

Great content cannot rescue a weak offer or a broken mobile checkout. Walk the journey: content → click → product → basket → payment. Every step is a potential leak.

StagePossible metrics
ContentReach, views, watch time, engagement
TrafficClicks, CTR, sessions
IntentAdd to basket, lead, conversion rate
SalesOrders, revenue, CPA/CAC, ROAS
RetentionRepeat purchase / LTV where measurable

Framework: The Champions measurement map; metrics depend on the business model and analytics setup.

Measurement is layered

IAB UK’s 2026 ROI guidance describes influencer measurement across reach/impressions, engagement, EMV and attributed sales or brand lift. It also stresses that sales attribution is partial: tracking links, codes and integrations each miss some behaviour.

Do not make every creator sound like the same advert

The brief should protect facts, claims, CTA and brand boundaries while leaving room for the creator’s own language. Otherwise you are buying multiple copies of one ad rather than multiple creative perspectives.

Set up tracking before publication

UTMs, creator links, codes, pixels and analytics need to exist before launch. Data that was never collected cannot be reconstructed afterwards.

Use organic content as a creative test bed

Strong creator assets can be amplified through paid media when rights allow. IAB UK’s 2025 UK & Europe research identified paid amplification among the areas expected to attract substantial investment in 2026.

Measure the whole campaign

Separate media performance, commercial outcomes and the value of reusable content. Our influencer marketing ROI guide covers the measurement stack in more detail.

The bottom line

Creators can generate attention and persuasion. The offer, site, tracking and product have to convert that attention into revenue. Build the campaign as a funnel, not a post.
