“Nano influencer” is a fuzzy category. Different tools draw the line in different places, usually somewhere among the smallest creator accounts. For a marketer, the exact boundary matters less than the operating model: many small creators can produce many pieces of content and many small audience touchpoints.

Nano does not simply mean cheap

A smaller creator may charge less for an individual collaboration, but a programme involving dozens of people creates coordination costs: outreach, contracts, product shipments, feedback and reporting. The economics work when the process scales too.

When can nano creators make sense?

ObjectiveWhy nano can fit
UGCMore creators can mean more creative variants
Local campaignsAccess to specific communities
TestingMore hooks and formats to compare
SeedingProduct can be distributed across a portfolio
AmbassadorsProject work can precede a longer relationship

The market is already comfortable with smaller creators

IAB UK’s 2025 UK & Europe research reports that 86% of surveyed marketers collaborate with micro-influencers. It also points to UGC, paid amplification and long-term partnerships as major investment areas heading into 2026. Nano and micro are not interchangeable categories, but the direction helps explain why brands increasingly build portfolios rather than relying only on large names.

When is a larger creator better?

When the job is concentrated reach, recognisable talent or one major campaign moment. Nano is a different tool, not a universal replacement for larger creators.

How should brands choose?

Look at content quality, consistency, comments, audience fit and commercial reliability. If you are buying assets as well as distribution, evaluate the creator like a tiny creative studio.

What do nano creators cost?

Follower count alone cannot price a campaign. Format, rights, exclusivity and production quality matter. See our separate guide to UK nano and micro influencer rates.

The bottom line

Nano creators are most interesting when a brand values creative volume, variety and multiple small touchpoints. The trade-off is operational: more creators require a better system.
